Dishcloth love...

So here's something I didn't ever imagine myself saying ......
I am more than a little in love with dishcloths right now !
Possibly something not to be said out loud too often - but yes, it's true.
I even have a few favourites - I know, it gets worse.
My absolute, absolute favourites, and the start of my obsession, are made by the hugely talented Jules at Little Woollie - just take a look at these, are they not things of beauty ?
Totally gorgeous in every way.

One day I plan to teach myself tapestry crochet from Jules blog.
I have even added several more lovely pictures of dishcloths to my Pinterest Board - I am quite probably beyond help...

..... all just lovely !
Obviously one thing led to another and I now can whip up a dishcloth in no time, from the start of X Factor to the end of Downton - done.
I have tried a couple of different cottons for them but King Cole Bamboo is just lovely to work with and gives the best results.

And here are a few of mine....

If anyone has the number for Dishcloths Anonymous just let me know.

  1. Well, I can honestly say that I have never seen a dishcloth collection, let alone one as extensive and impressive as this! You are amazing, and if dishcloth's float your boat go for it. I understand how satisfying it is to get something completed and so it is a good fairly quick project for that I imagine! Happy dishwashing - if you can bear to use them for that....

  2. You beat me to it!
I'm knitting dishcloths at the moment, I have two made, one to go as I can get three out of two balls of Sugar n' Cream cotton. Once complete I am going to create a blog post about my dishcloths with the pattern. I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys knitting dishcloths, they are great to knit while watching TV. However, mine aren't as clever as Jules.
Where do you get your Bamboo cotton, my yarn was sent to me from the USA and I've almost run out? Maybe we should start a dishcloth appreciation society :o)

    1. Hi Elizabeth
I'm so glad there's another person in the Dishcloth Club ! I bought my wool at Yarndale but maybe try Googling it and buying it online ? It really is a lovely wool to work with.
      Thanks for dropping by

    2. I wish I had gone to Yarndale, I didn't think to get the train up there, it was the five hour drive that put me off. Maybe next year as it certainly looked to be an amazing show.

    3. Elizabeth, I am in Northern Ireland and know a lady that stocks the Bamboo Cotton. I know she ships but don't know where to, however, if she's not able to ship it to you I'm sure she would know of a stockist in your area.

If you are on facebook, her page is called Heavenly Purls, her name is Janet Beattie. Or her email address is gowlanj@hotmail.com

  4. I don't think I've ever made a dish cloth but I really want to now after reading your post. I can totally understand how they could get rather addictive but it's a rather healthy and fulfilling addiction so don't feel bad :)

  11. If you do set up a meeting for dishcloths anonymous, I should probably join...I am currently knitting one but I'm faster with a hook than two needles so I'm thinking my next one will be crocheted. I'm using Debbie Bliss organic cotton but I've also heard bamboo is good for absorbency. I'm off to check out your pins now! x

  13. Your dishcloths are lovely, and such a satisfying project to make. I love the texture of them, and the pictures of several of them together look beautiful.
    Have a happy weekend.

  14. Goodness Kate, you will never guess what I am doing right this minute? Tapestry crochet! My inspiration came from a scarf I pinned on Pinterest. Isn't that funny? I'll tell you something too - it's very addictive!

I absolutely love your dishcloths - are they soft enough to be facecloths too? They'd make lovely little Christmas gifts wrapped up with a pretty soap and/or sprig of lavender. Uh oh, I think I'm just encouraging your addiction, aren't I?!

Thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog today.

  15. Hi Heather
Oh that's so funny - I'm definitely going to give it a go. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
The little cloths I make are sooo soft and would make lovely face cloths as well. I'd love to receive a present like that wouldn't you ?
I really did think your last blog post was so thought provoking, and I know exactly what you mean about all of our posts being happy, happy and everyone thinking we all have perfect lives .... but there little places of happy escapism aren't they, with real life going on all around it.
    Have a lovely weekend,

  16. Funny you should say that! I'm very tempted to whip up a few knitted face clothes myself, with the addition of a nice bar of soap I'm thinking they'll make great Christmas presents.
