Waffle Blanket

♥ Waffle Blanket

The size of my finished blanket is: 105cm x 145cm.

For my Waffle Blanket I used Women's Institute Soft and Smooth Aran,
which comes in 400g balls and is
available at Hobby Craft.
My main blanket was made with 5 x balls of the colour Biscuit
and 1 x ball of  Cream for the border.            .

I worked with a size 4.5mm hook.
This was smaller than the suggested hook size on the yarn strip but
I wanted to make sure the blanket had a solid texture to it,
so chose to go with a smaller size hook.

To learn how to do waffle stitch I watched an excellent video tutorial by BellaCoco.
Click here to take you there.

My starting chain for this blanket was 184,
and I worked this with a size 5mm hook to keep it nice and loose.

Once you have the hang of the stitch the pattern for this blanket is nothing more
complicated than just working straight rows of waffle stitch,
remembering to chain 1 and turn at the end of every row.

For my border I worked a round of deep DC in the cream,

followed by a second round, on the reverse side, of large bobbles.
The full details of this border can be found here.

I hope you enjoy making this blanket as much as I did -
for me, its definitely up there with one of my all time favourite stitches.

  1. Your waffle blanket looks wonderful. Much better quality than you could buy in a shop and so much more special and personal. Thank you for sharing it.

  2. When I click the link for the stitch tutorial video by Bella Coco, Pinterest says it no longer exists because the YouTube account has been deleted, but when I searched for this stitch on YouTube directly, Bella Coco's video was in the list of results, so, in case anyone else runs into this problem, here's the link to the video: https://youtu.be/YRnJHytHN_w

Thank you for this tutorial! Getting ready to made a baby blanket now!
