Rainbow Trails

If you have little ones in your household,  nieces, nephews,
grandchildren or small people who live next door or down the road
then this post just might be for you !

You may already have heard of this lovely,
cheerful idea but if not let me explain !

With everyone needing to pull together, look after each other,
keep cheerful, and occupy those who are at home and not at schools or nurseries,
 the idea is this:
to draw, paint or make a rainbow to put on display in your window.

When people are out on their one daily walk they can keep an eye out
for the rainbows on display in the area where they live and hopefully
each one will make them smile.
Children will love looking out for them and working out a trail to follow.

It's that simple!

So, it got more me thinking .....
what could be more cheerful than a crocheted rainbow?

This one took me a couple of hours to do today and it really couldn't be simpler
as I just used the colours of the rainbow to make a circle, folded in half and there it is !

And here's the pattern for you:

I used Ricorumi Cotton, which is a DK yarn, and I worked with a 3mm hook.
You could use any weight yarn though, just use the right size hook to match.
The circle is made in a continuous round.

Round 1: Using Violet make a Magic Ring and work 6 dc in to the ring.
Round 2: Work 2dc in to each stitch from Round 1. 12 sts.
Round 3: ( 1 dc, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. Work the last yarn over of the round in Indigo. Finsh off the Violet.

Round 4: Working in Indigo and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 24sts.
Round 5: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 3 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 30 sts.
Round 6: ( 1 dc in to each of the next 4 sts, 2dc in to the next st ) x 6. 36 sts. Work the last yarn over of the round in Blue. Finish off Indigo.

Round 7: Working in Blue and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 5 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 42sts.
Round 8: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 6 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 48 sts.
Round 9: ( 1 dc in to each of the next 7 sts, 2dc in to the next st ) x 6. 54 sts. Work the last yarn over of the round in Green. Finish off Blue.

Round 10: Working in Green and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 8 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 60sts.
Round 11: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 9 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 66 sts.
Round 12: ( 1 dc in to each of the next 10 sts, 2dc in to the next st ) x 6. 72 sts. Work the last yarn over of the round in Yellow. Finish off Green.

Round 13: Working in Yellow and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 11 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 78sts.
Round 14: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 12 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 84 sts.
Round 15: ( 1 dc in to each of the next 13 sts, 2dc in to the next st ) x 6. 90 sts. Work the last yarn over of the round in Orange. Finish off Yellow.

Round 16: Working in Orange and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 14 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 96sts.
Round 17: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 15 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 102 sts.
Round 18: ( 1 dc in to each of the next 16 sts, 2dc in to the next st ) x 6. 108 sts. Work the last yarn over of the round in Red. Finish off  Orange.

Round 19: Working in Red and working in to the back loops only, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 17 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6. 114sts.
Round 20: Now working in to both loops as normal, ( 1 dc in to each of the next 18 sts, 2dc in the next st ) x 6.
Round 21: Now fold the circle in half, wrong sides together and join the edges by starting at the right hand side of the centre fold and working (11dc, inc in the next st )all the way around the arc and back down to the other end of the centre fold. Finish off.

Once finished pop it in your window for everyone to see!

This one is going to be packed up in an envelope and sent to my
Grandaughter Grace and then I shall make a second
one to put up somewhere in our village.

  3. What a lovely idea. Here in the Netherlands we don't have such a strict lockdown and we can just go out if we want to. But someone thought of the idea to do a bear hunt for children. Kind of the same thing as you're doing. You put a bear in your window and children can look for it. Such a lovely idea all.
    Stay safe and healthy.

    Big hugs from the Netherlands.

    Sweet greetings,
    Emily
